The Great Orme Copper Mines date back over 4000 years to the Bronze Age and offer a fascinating and educational insight into what life in Britain was like 2000 years before the Romans.
The mines were discovered by accident in 1987 when some general landscaping work was being undertaken and since that time excavations have taken place to explore and expose what is thought to be the largest example of an ancient copper mine in the whole of Europe.
Visitors to the mines take an underground tour exploring caverns chisseled out with nothing more than stone and bone tools. A highlight of the tour is the wonderful Bronze Age Cavern believed to have been excavated over 3500 years ago.
The archaeologists resident on the site continue to examine the site and new discoveries and tunnels are being found all the time.
